Our history

ReviewerCredits was born in 2016 thanks to an idea and the friendship of two early career researchers, Giacomo Bellani and Robert Fruscio. These friends contributed to scientific research by participating in the peer review process at the time, like millions of scientists worldwide. Over the course of their experiences as peer reviewers, they found themselves faced with the lack of recognition and reward for their efforts despite the fact that peer review is a crucial part of the publication process for scientific journals and publishers.

ReviewerCredits is now a fully independent platform, not belonging to any publishing group. ReviewerCredits recognises, rewards, and certifies the work of peer reviewers, offering them and journals a number of free and paid subscription services. In 2022, Dr Sven Fund took responsibility for ReviewerCredits: Sven is convinced that peer review must be part of the academic record and that there must be ways for journals to legitimately and ethically reward academics for carrying out this community service.
