In June of this year, ReviewerCredits released a survey on a sample of 330 reviewers, selected from its network, to investigate the satisfaction on the products offered in its online store.

ReviewerCredits is an independent platform dedicated to Scientists, Journals and Publishers addressing the peer review process (launched in 2017 and accredited to the prestigious University of Milan-Bicocca, Italy). ReviewerCredits was created to ensure reviewers receive appropriate recognition and certification for their activity, enhance their visibility and become instrumental in career advancement. Compared to platforms that similarly deal with peer review certification, ReviewerCredits provides recognition for the valuable activity performed by the referees: not just metrics, but data unequivocally confirmed by Journal editors.

In order to include in the online store services and benefits most appreciated and relevant to peer-reviewers, ReviewerCredits recently concluded a survey to investigate their preferences.

The survey shows that the survey confirmed that the pool users questioned, are significantly aware of the possibility of using credits accumulated for each completed peer review, to redeem products available in ReviewerCredits online store. Over 85% of users found the credit system to be an incentive for completing peer reviews.

The concrete reward is certainly considered a way to effectively motivate the activity and to improve the quality of review process: the three most relevant benefits identified by our survey are special fees for participation in conferences and international scientific congress (16.8%), discount on training/e-learning courses (15.7%), discount on publication fees (14.1%), “especially from the Journals that the reviewer performed a paper review”.

Additional benefits suggested in the survey are for discounts on services provided for manuscripts editing and translation and online book purchases, confirming the trend to maintain cultural growth and formal improvement, typical of the scientific community.

Thanks to the opinions collected, ReviewerCredits is strengthening the store’s offer to better meet the needs of reviewers and is interested in new opportunities and partnerships to collaborate with players from the publishing world, but not only…
